In April 1983 John Bassili established ACTION METAL INDUSTRIES (NZ) LTD to manufacture tubular steel and wire products for the display industry. Action Metals as it is affectionately called, quickly branched into manufacturing of other Tubular Steel and Wire Products and began servicing the Automotive Industry with items such as roof racks, car ramps etc., the Hospitality Industry with table and chair frames, the Medical Supply Industry, the Sports Equipment Industry and many other diverse clients.

In 1989 "Action Metals" relocated to its own premises in Onehunga combining factory, showrooms and administration under the one roof and integrating its two subsidiaries; Displays Unlimited New Zealand Limited and Antar Products (NZ) Limited.
